A 69-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in a crash on Catalina Highway, authorities say.

Dale Young was was traveling south on Catalina Highway near the base of the mountain when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a guard rail, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday in a news release.

Dale was thrown from the motorcycle into a steep ravine, the release said.

Dale was declared dead at the crash scene.

The investigation continues.
