TUCSON, Ariz. — A man and a woman escaped serious injury when their SUV got swept away by swift-flowing water in a wash on Tucson's south side, overturned and began filling with water before they got out.
Tucson Fire Department Capt. Barrett Baker said the SUV was swept downstream Tuesday night after it entered the wash flowing with runoff from a monsoon storm and that firefighters responded to a call about the people being inside the flipped-over vehicle.
Baker said the 28-year-old man and 24-year-old woman inside the vehicle were able to get out of the vehicle and pull themselves to the side of the wash near Interstate 19.
Identities weren't released.
The Fire Department's description of the incident included an admonition to not attempt to drive through flooded washes.
