Authorities now think they know who killed a man in midtown Tucson Tuesday.

Tucson Police Department homicide detectives have arrested a California man on suspicion of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Mark Garity.

Garity was pronounced dead at the scene around 2:30 am Tuesday after officers responded to a call of a man down on East Monte Vista Drive near North Flanwill Boulevard.

Vincent Detwiler, 21, of San Bernardino, is being held in the San Bernardino County Jail awaiting extradition back to Arizona, TPD said in a news release Friday.

Detwiler is the brother of the victim's girlfriend and was last seen driving around with the victim the night of the killing, the news release said.

Police said the suspect drove back to California after the incident. Detectives traced his steps and obtained a search warrant to search his vehicle.

"After searching the vehicle and collecting evidence, it was apparent that the murder had taken place inside of that vehicle," the news release said.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
