Tucson Fire Department crews were dispatched to a McDonald's restaurant on Tanque Verde and Kolb after a vehicle struck a pedestrian and ran into the building around 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson police spokesman. She was identified as 54-year-old Barbara Angiolini.
A male driver was making a left turn in a gold 2005 Toyota Highlander onto westbound Tanque Verde Road before he lost control, sped over the median and hit Angiolini waiting to cross the street.
The vehicle went through an iron fence near the McDonald's on 6651 East Tanque Verde Road before it crashed into the building.
Emergency personnel transported the driver and his passenger to a hospital with serious injuries. Three people suffered minor injuries from flying debris inside the restaurant but were not transported.
At 2:42 p.m., Dugan said the roadway reopened for travel. It was previously shut down for several hours as personnel were at the scene.
No citations have been issued but detectives believe speed appears to be a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
