UPDATE: Tucson police ID man struck and killed crossing Speedway. The man struck by a car in the 3700 block of Campbell Avenue is currently recovering.Β 

A man suffered life-threatening injuries when struck by a vehicle on Tucson's east side Saturday evening, authorities said.

It does not appear the man was in a crosswalk when the collision occurred, said Officer Ray Smith, a police spokesman.

He said the driver remained at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

The collision closed westbound Speedway Boulevard at North Maguire Avenue for several hours.

The roadway, which is east of Pantano Road, was opened shortly before 10:45 p.m., the department said.

Tucson Police officers are also investigating a separate collision near the 3700 block of Campbell Avenue.Β 

A man was struck by a vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries, according to Officer Ray Smith, a police spokesman.

Traffic in the area was being diverted, Smith said.

No further information has been released.
