A fourth Marana police officer is being investigated by the department for his or her role in an incident that involved illegal use of the state's criminal database.
Earlier this week, the Marana Police Department confirmed that one officer had been fired in October and another two had resigned in connection with the incident.
Dionysius Cazares has 10 days from her termination date to file an appeal of her firing but until then, department officials are prohibited by state law from commenting further on the situation, said department spokesman, Sgt. Chriswell Scott.
On Oct. 10, a Pima County grand jury indicted Cazares on two counts of computer tampering to obtain confidential information, stemming from a Sept. 17 incident during which she used the Arizona Criminal Justice Information System without a legitimate law enforcement purpose, according to superior court records.
Two other former officers, Kyla Sylvia and Daniel Nicholas, are also no longer with the department as a result of the incident, having both resigned in October, Scott said.
On Thursday, Scott confirmed that a 4th officer has been placed on imposed leave "stemming from the investigation" into the other three officers, he said.
Scott was unable to release the officer's name.
Cazares, 31, was booked and released without bond during her arraignment Oct. 17, court records show.
She is being represented by the Pima County Public Defenderโs Office and is scheduled for a case management conference in front of Judge Richard Fields on Nov. 16, court records show.
No additional details about the incident were available.
