A man with multiple gunshot wounds was found in the passenger seat of this car early Wednesday morning, Tucson police say. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and police are investigating.

A man was found shot to death early this morning inside of a running car on Tucson's west side, police say.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. police received a 911 call about a vehicle that had been parked in the 1000 block of West Colorado Street for some time with the engine running and the headlights on,ย  said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman. When officers got to the car near I-10 and West St. Mary's Road they found Jose Ramon Lopez, 43, in the passenger with gunshot wounds, Dugan said.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, Dugan said.

The vehicle had been stolen a few weeks ago and based on evidence at the scene, TPD's gang unit was called in to help investigate, Dugan said.

Shortly before the call about the vehicle in which the body was found, police answered a 911 call a few blocks away reporting gunfire. Officers found nothing when they searched the area, Dugan said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.
