Volunteers interested in helping people in the aftermath of a violent crime or other trauma must attend one of two upcoming informational sessions through the Pima County Attorney’s Office.

The agency’s victim services division is recruiting community volunteers to serve as advocates for crime victims, who would be asked to help those involved with both individual crime scenes as well as large-scale incidents, like the mass shooting here on Jan. 8, 2011.

The advocates help survivors with crisis intervention services, emotional support, and resources and referrals.

Prospective volunteers are asked to attend one of the two upcoming informational sessions, scheduled to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 at the Tucson Police Department Substation, 1310 W. Miracle Mile.

After that, crisis intervention and victimology training will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings for seven weeks beginning Feb. 22. Those interested in attending the training must first attend one of the information sessions.
