A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Wednesday morning that shut down a portion of Interstate 10 in Tucson for hours, authorities said.

The unidentified motorcyclist struck the rear of a commercial vehicle just after 7 a.m. on eastbound I-10 at Speedway, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

The collision caused the man to fall from the motorcycle and he might have been struck by a vehicle behind the initial crash, the state DPS said.

The motorcyclist died at the crash scene, DPS said.

The interstate reopened about 10:30 a.m.
