A 17-year-old was shot and killed during a "verbal confrontation" early Saturday morning at a trailhead on Tucson's west side, police said.

Gunfire was reported about 2:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of West 36th Street, near a trailhead west of South La Cholla Boulevard, Tucson police said Sunday in a news release.

A short time later, a wounded KevenΒ Yanez AcuΓ±a was dropped off at St. Mary's Hospital, the release said. AcuΓ±aΒ died later.

No details of the shooting had been released Sunday, but police say the shooting appears to have followed an argument between AcuΓ±aΒ and a group of people.
