What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week someone who makes Tucson better is “belled.”
Last week’s recipients: Joe Farmer and Nicole Rullo, swim coaches at Rincon/University High School.
Nominated by: Rincon/University High swim teams.
Why: For being inspirational coaches. They teach with kindness, respect and enthusiasm. “The show us by example that, when you treat people fairly and with enthusiasm, kindness, inclusiveness and respect, we can achieve great things,” said the team’s nomination letter. The coaches work with and cheer on all team members, whether they are beginners or state champions. “They teach us that hard work and high expectations can exist without sacrificing kindness and good sportsmanship.” The team’s letters said the coaches’ classrooms are places where students like to gather during lunch and after school because they are “happy and welcoming” places.
