A man who crashed while riding a motor scooter earlier this month has died, Tucson police say.

About 3 a.m. April 5, Michael A. Luttrell, 64, crashed while riding a Genuine Buddy in the 1700 block of West Ajo Way, Tucson police said in a news release.

Investigators say Luttrell was knocked from the scooter when he struck a sign in a construction zone that stretched under the Interstate 10 overpass.

Luttrell, who was not wearing a helmet and lacked a motorcycle endorsement, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Police were notified April 15 that he died at the hospital.
