Authorities are working to identify a woman who was killed when she was struck by several vehicles as she ran across Interstate 10 early Monday morning.

The woman tried to run across I-10 about 4:00 a.m. after she stopped the vehicle she was driving in the eastbound emergency shoulder  between Cortaro Farms and Tangerine Road, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.

Authorities said that for an unknown reason, the woman from the car across the eastbound lanes and the median.

She as then struck by a passenger vehicle in the westbound lanes. She was then struck by two tractor trailers, the state DPS said.

The woman died at the crash scene.

DPS is working with the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner to identify the woman, authorities said.
