An 82-year-old woman died hours after a crash Wednesday on Tucson's northwest side, Tucson police say.

Geraldine E. McAndrews collided with a car about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday as she turned left from southbound North Oracle Road onto West Genematas Drive, north of West River Road, Tucson police said Thursday in a news release.

McAndrews was wearing a seatbelt while driving a 2005 Ford Escape SUV at the time of the crash with a 2020 BMW sedan. Her injuries were initially thought not to be life-threatening both at the crash scene and at the hospital, the release said.

Hours later, however, the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office notified police that McAndrews had died, the release said.

The driver of the BMW, a 49-year-old man, had minor injuries.

While the investigation continues, police say failure to yield while making a left turn is a contributing factor in the crash.
