An 18-year-old man jailed in connection with a Tucson killing has been linked to an incident in July in which a barrage of bullets injured two people and scattered partygoers across a northwest side neighborhood, officials say.

Jose Fernandez, 18, faces charges in the July 16th shooting outside of a house party near West Overton and North Shannon roads, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The arrest of Fernandez came after an investigation linked him to a firearm used in the July shooting incident, the release said.

Fernandez already was in custody at the Pima County jail in connection with an unrelated homicide case being handled by the Tucson Police Department.

In the homicide case, Jesus Alfonso Castro Duarte, 22, was shot and killed in August at a mobile home park in the 800 block of West Prince Road.

Fernandez was arrested in that case on Sept. 6. Another man also was arrested.

Neither a motive nor details about the shooting have been released.
