The skeletal remains of a 77-year-old man were found in a desert area in the Catalina Foothills, authorities say.

The remains were found about 3 p.m. Oct. 29 in the 5100 block of North Swan Road, south of East Sunrise Road, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.

The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner helped identofy the remains as those of Thomas Reuter, the release said.

The circumstances surrounding Rueter's death remain under investigation.
