A Border Patrol agent was in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle on Arizona 80 near Douglas last weekend, authorities said.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office received calls around 4:30 p.m. March 24 about the collision near Plantation Road, which is west of Douglas. When emergency personnel responded to the scene, a vehicle was located in the right eastbound travel lane.

Immediate medical attention was rendered to the male agent after he was located off of the roadway. He was taken to a Tucson hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

An investigation indicated the agent was northbound on Plantation Road on an all-terrain vehicle approaching a cattle guard near the highway, the release said. It appears the agent may have struck a sign near the highway and that crash threw him from the ATV and into or near the traffic lanes on the highway. Authorities said a vehicle traveling the speed limit in the eastbound lane struck the agent, who was standing at the time he wast hit.

No further information was released.
