Two Mexican nationals were arrested Tuesday after a vehicle chase near Elgin by Border Patrol agents who found more than a ton of marijuana in a truck, authorities said.

The marijuana is valued in excess of $1 million, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said in a news release.

Agents tried to stop a suspicious 2003 Chevrolet pickup on Lower Elgin Road, northeast of Arizona Highway 83, but the vehicle sped and veered off the road and crashed into a chunk of concrete, said authorities.

Both men required medical treatment and were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said. The men were arrested on drug smuggling charges.

Agents seized the truck and 97 bundles of marijuana found in the truck. Β
