More than $1 million in marijuana was seized Wednesday in two separate incidents near Douglas.

In one of the incidents, shortly after 7 p.m. agents were alerted to a possible vehicle incursion east of Douglas along the international border, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.

Personnel operating cameras along the border spotted a Chevy Silverado truck driving north from the area, officials said.

Agents responded and attempted to stop the truck, but the driver failed to yield and agents chased the truck. During the pursuit, the driver attempted to go back to the border, but other agents deployed a device in the truck's path to flatten the tires, authorities said.

When the truck came to a stop, the driver and passenger ran into Mexico. Agents found more than 1,800 pounds of marijuana inside the truck. It's estimated value is more than $900,000, said officials.

In the other incident, agents stopped a 2005 Nissan truck traveling east on Arizona 80, near mile marker 385. As agents approached the truck, the driver sped off and agents chased the truck a short distance until it veered off the highway and crashed into a tree, officials said.

The driver ran but was caught by agents, and later identified as a Mexican national. More than 240 pounds of marijuana was found in the truck's bed. It was valued at more than $120,000, said authorities.

The man was taken to a hospital for minor injuries suffered in the crash. He was treated and released to agents.

Both trucks and marijuana loads were seized and taken to the Douglas Station for processing, said officials.
