A Guatemalan woman, who suffered seizures while in federal custody in Eloy, was pronounced dead at Banner-Casa Grande Medical Center Sunday, authorities said.
The woman was identified as Raquel Calderon de Hildago, 36, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Her family was notified of her death through Guatemalan consular officials.
Hospital staff were unable to revive her, states a news release.
Medical staff at the Eloy Detention Center called paramedics after Calderon de Hildago suffered a seizure.
The woman continued seizing in the ambulance while en route to the hospital, authorities said.
The official cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner.
Calderon de Hildago was transferred to ICE custody Nov. 23, six days after her arrest by Border Patrol agents near Robles Junction. At the time of her death, she was awaiting a removal process to Guatemala, states the release.
Calderon de Hildago is the third person to die in ICE custody in fiscal year 2017, according to the release.
