Tucson travelers will have a new option to fly nonstop to Sacramento next March, when Southwest Airlines plans to launch weekend nonstop service to the California capital.

The Saturday and Sunday flights to Sacramento International Airport begin on March 8 and can be booked now through Southwest.com or Flytucson.com.

Earlier this summer, Alaska Airlines announced it would add seasonal daily nonstops between the Tucson airport and Sacramento starting in January and continuing through mid-April.

Tucson Airport Authority President and CEO Danette Bewley said the authority is pleased local travelers have two options to fly to Sacramento as it continues to work to attract new air service to Tucson.

Tucson International Airport is poised to serve nearly 4 million passengers in 2024, with March being the busiest month on record at the airport since 2008.

Among other seasonal changes to nonstops from Tucson International Airport, by destination (subject to change, check with carrier):

  • Chicago Midway: Southwest nonstop goes to daily, from selected days now, on Oct. 3
  • Chicago O’Hare: United Airlines started a daily nonstop on Aug. 19 and plans to increase that to twice daily on Sept. 2
  • Dallas: Southwest plans to resume a nonstop route to Dallas Love Field as a daily flight on Oct. 3
  • Minneapolis: Delta Air Lines launches seasonal service with the first flight on Nov. 18, then daily or twice daily from Nov. 10 to April 13, 2025; Sun Country Airline launches its first flight on Nov. 22, then plans to fly two to five flights weekly until April 14, 2025.
  • Orange County, California (John Wayne Airport): Alaska plans daily nonstops from Dec. 19 through April 21, 2025.
  • Portland, Oregon: Alaska to begin one to two daily nonstops beginning Oct. 1, then twice daily starting Dec. 19, dropping to once daily from March 18 through April 21, 2025.
