Gas Pump

Gas prices dipped across Arizona and the nation this week as demand slackened, but prices could head upward if a tropical storm threatening Florida this weekend hampers oil production and refining in the Gulf of Mexico, AAA says.

The statewide average gas price fell about a penny in a week to $3.47 per gallon of regular on Friday, while the national average dropped about 4 cents to $3.48 per gallon.

Tucson had the state's lowest average gas price at $3.36 per gallon, down about 4 cents on the week.

Flagstaff had the state's priciest gas at an average $3.62 per gallon.

Crude-oil prices have hovered under $80 recently and jumped midweek amid escalating tensions in the Middle East before retreating later in the week.
