Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

Brian Keeley: Brian Keeley, a former member of the Regional Transportation Authority’s citizens’ advisory committee for RTA Next, is the first recipient of the RTA’s new Spirit of Regionalism Award.

The honor recognizes those who exemplify the spirit of regional collaboration through leadership and dedication to advancing initiatives that benefit the economic well-being of the greater Tucson region.

Keeley received the award in recognition of his collaborative efforts to assist the citizens’ advisory committee in moving toward RTA Next plan recommendations for RTA Board consideration.

Keeley served while the committee was active, from 2018 to 2024.

University of Arizona: The University of Arizona has once again been recognized as one of the world’s top research institutions.

UA ranked No. 115 out of 2,250 higher education institutions across more than 100 countries in the 2024-2025 Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report. It ranked No. 44 among universities in the U.S. and No. 23 among public U.S. universities.

The ranking placed the UA among the top 10% of all ranked universities across the globe.

In the space science category, UA placed No. 8 overall, No. 6 in the U.S. and No. 2 among public universities.

In water resources, the university was ranked No. 2 in the U.S., No. 29 globally. For geosciences, it placed No. 10 in the U.S., No. 25 globally.

The university also earned top-100 global placements for its programs in meteorology and atmospheric sciences (No. 47), environment/ecology (No. 59), arts and humanities (tied for No. 78) and plant/animal sciences (No. 78).

The university’s overall research reputation was ranked No. 47 in the U.S. and No. 98 globally.

Pima Community College: The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Pima Community College for its annual Comprehensive Financial Report.

The report, for the year ended June 30, 2023, demonstrated a constructive β€œspirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and is designed to motivate potential users to read the report.
