Tucson Metro Chamber: Michael Guymon, CEO of the Tucson Metro Chamber, has been nominated for the Arizona Capitol Times 2023 Leader of the Year Award. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and the state of Arizona.

Guymon joined the organization as vice president in July 2018 and was promoted to executive VP in 2021. During his tenure, he has led the Chamber in its efforts to promote economic development, advocate for small businesses and improve the quality of life in Tucson. He has also been a vocal advocate for education and workforce development.

Prior to joining the Tucson Metro Chamber, Guymon served as vice president of regional partnerships for Sun Corridor Inc. He also served as executive director of the Metropolitan Pima Alliance, a regional planning organization.

Tubac Presidio: The Friends of the Tubac Presidio and Museum received the 2023 Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area grant.

The $19,970 award will be used to fund their new Sonoran Food Heritage Indoors-Out exhibit at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park & Museum. The museum exhibit will be mirrored in outdoor gardens featuring crops from the Old World and those endemic to the Americas. The project will be accompanied by lectures by renowned experts in Southern Arizona food-ways.

They are also integrating a component to support cross-cultural and cross-generational learning by partnering high school students enrolled in Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District’s culinary and farming programs with retirees who have long supported the Presidio as volunteers.
