A second woman has contracted Tucson police about an incident that’s similar to an attempted abduction reported near the University of Arizona campus, officials say.

On Friday, Tucson police issued a news release about a reported abduction attempt that occurred about 8 p.m. Thursday south of campus near North Mountain Avenue and East Eighth Street, Tucson police said Friday in a news release.

In that incident, a woman walking west on Eighth Street said a man got out of a vehicle that was following her and grabbed the woman from behind.

During the struggle, the woman dropped to the ground and started screaming. The man ran back to the car and drove off, police said.

After news reports about the attack, a woman contacted police to report a similar encounter the day before.

That woman told police that about 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, she was followed by a man driving a car just east of campus near North Campbell Avenue and East Third Street.

She provided investigators with an updated description of the man and the car he drove.

The attacker is now described as a heavyset man with a dark complexion. He is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a close buzz haircut, police say.

The vehicle is a dark, purplish four-door hatchback or crossover with a dented front bumper, tinted windows, and no front license plate.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tips line.
