A man faces charges in connection with a crash late last month on Tucson's southwest side that killed a 73-old-woman, authorities say in an updated account of the wreck.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department initially said in a news release that Debby Bazan was killed in a crash about 5 a.m. June 29 after she ran a red light at West Valencia and South Mark roads and struck two vehicles.
On Monday, the department issued a news release that changed the narrative for the crash.
Investigators now say DaβQuan Cain, 25, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox west on Valencia at nearly 100 mph when he ran a red light, swerved to avoid a vehicle in the intersection, crossed the center of the road and smashed into two other vehicles, according to the department's news release Monday. Cain ran away from the scene immediately after the crash but was apprehended, the department has said.
Cain is now in the Pima County jail on suspicion of manslaughter, failure to stop for a collision involving a death, causing death by moving violation and criminal damage, the news release said.
