A 13-year-old boy is the latest Tucson student police have charged in the ongoing investigation into a rash of school threats here, authorities say.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of a felony count of disrupting an educational facility and a misdemeanor count of using electronic devices to terrify, intimidate, threaten or harass, Tucson police said Tuesday in a news release.

The arrest is linked to a social media trend of targeting schools in the Tucson area with threats of violence against students and staff that have been circulating over the last several days on social media.

In the most recent incident, police went to the boy's home on Tucson's east side where they say he admitted his involvement in an online threat, the release said. The boy was then taken to the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center.

School across Pima County have been coping with several school threats over the last several days that are being spread online. It's part of a national trend.

Here, the threats have resulted in at least one school temporarily switching to online classes, an increased law enforcement presence at some campuses and pleas from police to report threats rather than repost them on social media.

Earlier this week an 11-year-old Tucson boyΒ was arrested in connection with a separate school threat against a middle school. And a 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a threat leveled against a local high school, police have said.
