An armed man who barricaded himself in an apartment northwest of Tucson during an hours-long stand-off fired more than 40 shots at police, a new report says.
Cody Hudson, 29, is still hospitalized, but he’s been arrested in abstentia on multiple charges that include domestic violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and weapons violations, a news release from the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, a multi-agency group that investigates officer-involved shootings here.
The incident started about 2 p.m. Aug. 11 when Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to a second-floor apartment in the 4700 block of West Linda Vista Boulevard for a report of an armed, suicidal man who was threatening and refusing to let another resident leave, a news release said. The roommate was rescued.
During the standoff, Hudson fired at law enforcement on several occasions.
He was shot by SWAT officers when he came out of the apartment about midnight and again about 1 a.m., but ran back into the apartment both times, the release said. He was apprehended about 2:30 a.m., after he came out of the apartment again and was struck with a Taser, the report said.
No law enforcement officers nor neighbors were wounded.
The officers who fired their weapons during the standoff were identified as: Deputy Paul Petropoulos, a 29-year veteran of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department; Officer Tyler Nicholson, a 12-year veteran of the Oro Valley Police Department; and Officer Justin Gauna, a 7-year veteran of the Marana Police Department.
The Tucson Police Department has been assigned primary responsibility for the criminal investigation. The Sheriff’s Department is conducting a separate administrative investigation.
The findings will be forwarded to the Pima County Attorney’s Office, which is standard procedure.
