Three people were killed and four more were injured in a two-car crash early Sunday morning in midtown, Tucson police say.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m.

A gray 2013 Audi A5 speeding east on East Grant Road with its headlights off about 3a.m. smashed into a gold 1999 Toyota Camry whose driver ran the stop sign at North Palo Verde Boulevard, Tucson police said Sunday in a news release.

Ronald Cook, 31, who was driving the Toyota, and Kristina Orantez, 35, died at the crash scene, police said.

Xiomara Encinas-Cruz, 19, a passenger in the Audi died at the hospital.

Two other passengers in the Audi were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, Tucson police said. The driver of the Audi and one other passenger were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The investigation continues.
