A 12-year-old middle school student in Sahuarita was arrested Monday after police say he took a gun to school.

Officers went to Sahuarita Middle School about 2:15 p.m. after a report of a student there having a gun, Sahuarita police say.

School staff had confiscated the weapon and isolated the boy from other students, police said.

Because of these quick measures, police say heightened security measures inside the school were not necessary.

The boy was taken into custody on suspicion of weapons misconduct and disruption of an educational institution, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sahuarita Police Department at 520-351-4900, or the department's tip line at 520-445-7847.
