A man was injured in a police shooting on the cityās east side Sunday afternoon.
Around 11 a.m., Tucson Police received a call about an armed robbery that happened at a Best Buy, located at 6025 E. Broadway. Employees were able to give a description of the suspect, who was later found by police.
When officers attempted to contact the suspect an hour later, they saw he was armed, and an exchange of gunfire occurred, police said.
The suspect then ran behind a CVS, located at 7499 E. Broadway, when an officer arrived at the scene, and more gunfire was exchanged, striking the suspect, police said. Officers rendered aid to the suspect, who was taken by Tucson Fire personnel to St. Josephās Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
No other community members or officers were injured, police said.
Police said there is still a number of witnesses who need to be interviewed. They are asking those who may have information or videos of the incident to come forward and call 88-CRIME.
The identity of the suspect or officer involved in the shooting were not released.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team will handle the criminal investigation and the Pima County Sheriff's Department will be the lead agency.Ā
