Tucson Police, code lights

Tucson police are investigating the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in midtown Tucson Sunday night.

Just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian on Speedway near Stone Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Tucson police said.

Police said the pedestrian was attempting to cross from north to south in a marked crosswalk when an unknown vehicle traveling westbound on a green light struck him. The vehicle did not stop after the crash and has not been located.

The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of the family.

Crossing against the traffic signal by the pedestrian is a major contributing factor of the collision, however, leaving the scene of a fatal collision is the focus of the investigation, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
