Anthony Maldonado

A 16-year-old has been booked into the Pima County jail in connection with a fatal shooting on the northwest side last month, officials said.

Anthony Maldonado, who was injured in the shooting, checked himself into the hospital after the April 17 incident and was later confirmed to be the suspect who killed one man and injured another, said Deputy Ryan Inglett, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

Pima County Sheriff's deputies responded to the shooting in the 3500 block of West Amber Terrace at about 4 p.m..

The area is near West Orange Grove Road and North Camino de la Tierra.

Deputies found Jaisaac Sloan, 21, and Austin Buckshaw, 20, with gunshot wounds, Inglett said.

Deputies gave aid to the men, but Sloan was pronounced dead at the scene. Buckshaw, who was seriously injured, was taken to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson.

Inglett said deputies learned that Sloan and Buckshaw, who both knew each other, were in a camper trailer with other people when the shooting occurred. He said the man suspected in the shooting pulled a gun from a backpack and began to fire.
