A man has been arrested in connection with the killing of another man Tuesday night at Santa Rita Park.

Phillip Lewis Jr., 34, was booked into Pima County jail on suspicion of second degree murder as well as a felony warrant for a probation violation, Sgt. Kimberly Bay said in a Tucson police news release.

About 8:30 p.m. Tuesday officers went to the park on East 22nd Street near South Fourth Avenue after reports of an assault.

Officers found a man’s body. Witnesses pointed out a man and woman walking away.

Police say the victim and Lewis were acquaintances who had previous arguments and fights.

On Tuesday the victim and Lewis fought after the victim approached him and the woman as they sat on a concrete bench. During the brawl the victim was stabbed.

The name of the victim has not been released while police work to notify his family.

The investigation continues.
