A man was killed early this morning on Interstate 10 northwest of Tucson when he was struck by a semi truck, officials say.

Several calls to 911 were made about 2:45 a.m. reporting the crash in the eastbound lanes between Tangerine and Avra Valley roads, said Capt. Brian Keeley of Northwest Fire District.

The man, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

The truck driver was at the scene and cooperating with investigators.

Eastbound traffic was detoured early Thursday morning, but lanes reopened before morning rush hour. Westbound traffic was unaffected.
