The body of a man was found northwest of the city late Thursday afternoon.

At about 4 p.m., Oro Valley Police Department officers responded to a report of a body located near West Camino Christy and North Shannon Road, said Deputy Ryan Inglett, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

The discovery was turned over to sheriff's deputies and homicide detectives when it was realized the incident was in the county sheriff's jurisdiction, Inglett said.

Homicide detectives were working to identify the man and what led to his death, said Inglett. The area is residential with houses sittting on one-acre lots.

The body was in stages of decomposition, and it was turned over to the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
