A recycling bin located at the Islamic Center of Tucson was set on fire Wednesday morning, but was extinguished with noΒ damage to the building or surrounding area

A residential recycling container at the Islamic Center of Tucson was set on fire Wednesday morning, during an early morning prayer service, according to a state advocacy group.

Arizona's Council on American-Islamic Relations reported on Thursday that worshippers called 911 after smelling smoke and seeing a recycling container set on fire, a council spokesperson wrote in a news release.

Tucson Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, with no damage to the building or surrounding area, according to a post on the center's Facebook page.

The council on American-Islamic Relations has asked that local law enforcement to investigate the motive for the fire, as well as provide additional patrols in the area.

The center did not report the fire to Tucson police, but the department is looking into the incident, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a department spokeswoman.

After learning about the fire from another source, the department initiated it's own report, Bay said.

The Islamic center wrote in the Facebook post that it's "extremely concerned" about the incident.
