An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a South Tucson home early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Gerard Garavito was booked into Pima County jail on suspicion of felony arson of an occupied structure and felony criminal damage, said Lt. Jeff Inorio, a South Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., South Tucson Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 300 block of West 30th Street, and requested aid from the Tucson Fire Department, said Tucson Fire spokesman Capt. Andy Skaggs.

It took 25 firefighters from both departments almost 20 minutes to control the blaze, Skaggs said.

South Tucson police arrived shortly before 2 a.m. to assist with the investigation into the cause of the fire, and made contact with a man "who made unsolicited statements regarding the fire," Inorio said.

Officers detained the man, and after an interview with detectives, Garavito was arrested and transported to jail.

It's unclear who was inside of the house at the time of the fire, but no one was injured, Inorio said.

Police have contacted the property owner, who lives in California.
