A man wanted in connection with a deadly knife attack involving his ex-girlfriend Monday turned himself into Cochise County authorities early Wednesday, police said.
James Murray Reaves called 911 shortly after 1 a.m., and was taken into custody near Whetstone. He's being held in the Cochise County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and first-degree burglary, said Deputy Cody Gress, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokesman.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, deputies went to the 2800 block of South Shiela Avenue,Β near South Kinney Road and South Tucson Mountain Estates Parkway, for reports of a stabbing.
At the scene, they found a 38-year-old man with multiple stab wounds and a 34-year-old woman who had also been injured in the attack, Gress said.
The man, who has been identified as Damion Philipps, later died at the hospital.
Detectives learned that Reaves is the ex-boyfriend of the woman injured in the attack.
In the early morning hours, Reaves showed up at the home and got into a fight with the male victim, during which Reaves pulled out a knife and stabbed the man several times, Gress said.
After the stabbing, Reaves fled to a nearby convenience store, where he left his car and was picked up by someone in a white pickup truck.
The investigation is ongoing.
