A 17-year-old was shot multiple times during a drug transaction near an east-side apartment complex Thursday night.

The injuries are not life threatening, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman Friday.Β

Shortly after 8 p.m. on June 22, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Green Leaf at Broadway apartments at 8880 E. Broadway, said Dugan.

The teen told detectives that he was shot during a narcotics transaction nearby.

"Although investigators are trying to determine what happened, he is giving information that is not consistent with the evidence we have and witness statements about what they saw," said Dugan.

The case remains under investigation.
