Tucson police arrested King Yates, 22, in connection with the shooting death of his wife.

Cassandra Yates, 24, was shot about 6:45 p.m. Sunday in a neighbor’s apartment at 7671 E. Tanque Verde Road, police said in a news release.

On Monday morning, police responded to a report of suspicious activity and the sound of breaking glass at a residence on the 2400 block of North Desert Links Drive. The house had an eviction notice on it and police found Yates asleep in a bedroom.

He was detained without incident. A gun was recovered.

Yates was arrested for first-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons--prohibited possessor, and second-degree burglary. He was booked into the Pima County jail.

The couple was visiting a neighbor when the shooting took place, police said. A motive has not been released.

King Yates walked away from the apartment complex before police arrived.

Emergency crews tried to save Cassandra Yates, but she died shortly after they arrived.
