Robotic deer 2

Terry Herndon, regional director of the Mule Deer Foundation, shows the robotic mule deer the foundation donated to the Arizona Game and Fish Department Wednesday. The decoy will be used to catch poachers.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is seeking information on a poacher who illegally killed a young whitetail buck south of Tucson.

The remains of the deer were found at the southern end of the Cerro Colorados Mountains off of Arivaca Road. Wildlife officers suspect the deer was shot Oct. 25.

The maximum penalty for poaching is six months in jail and a $750 for each count. Civil penalties as well as revocations of licenses may also be imposed.

"Poachers are not hunters. They are thieves who steal wildlife from the citizens of Arizona," said supervisor Raul Vega of the Game and Fish office in Tucson.

Anyone with information can call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-352-0700. Callers can remain anonymous.
