Jane Pesquiera, second from right with bell, nominator Susie Vincent, right, and Pesquiera’s family.

What: Ben’s Bells promote kindness and community involvement. Each week a person who makes Tucson better is “belled.”

Last week’s recipient: Jane Pesquiera.

Nominated by: Susie Vincent.

Why: For her work as a teacher. Pesquiera has been a preschool teacher for more than 20 years at St. Francis in the Foothills. Her class has children from 10 different countries, and Pesquiera acclimates the children and their parents to our culture while celebrating all of their cultures’ food, music, stories and celebrations, Vincent wrote in her nomination letter. “Gardening, music, and language immersion in Spanish, as well as exposure to Farsi and Hebrew, make her international classroom full of peace and love,” Vincent wrote. Pesquiera was also a ballerina in Philadelphia and spends time here teaching ballet. “Jane is the most kind, gentle soul and a true gem,” Vincent wrote.
