Four candidates for the University of Arizona provost have been selected and will come to campus starting Monday for in-person interviews and recruitment visits.

The UA did not disclose their names. UA spokesperson Mitch Zak said the university's candidate confidentiality protocol is standard practice for high-level higher education search processes.

The first candidate will be on campus March 17, the second candidate on March 20, the third on March 27 and the fourth on March 31.

“Details for each candidate will be made available 24-48 hours prior to their visit to Tucson,” UA said in an announcement.

The position has seen multiple leadership changes in recent years.

Liesl Folks, who had been provost since 2019, stepped down in May 2023.

She was succeeded in the role by Joseph Glover — but he left the UA after serving only about six weeks in the $550,000 job.

Glover began at UA on July 1, 2024, shortly after then-UA President Robert C. Robbins announced he would be stepping down amid the university's ongoing budget deficit.

Glover announced on Aug. 13, 2024, that he was returning to the University of Florida, where he had been head of academic affairs.

His announcement came a few days after Suresh Garimella was named UA president by the Arizona Board of Regents. Garimella started at UA on Oct. 1.

Ron Marx currently holds the position of interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
