Seven University of Arizona faculty members have been selected as 2025 Fulbright scholars.

The U.S. State Departmentโs cultural exchange program supports U.S. scholars conducting research or teaching abroad for up to a year.
Since 1954, the year UA first had a researcher selected as a Fulbright scholar, the university has had more than 300 Fulbright scholars representing it in institutions around the world.
The seven researchers are:
โ Melody Buckner: Associate vice provost of digital learning and online initiatives and assistant professor of practice in the College of Education, Buckner was awarded the Fulbright International Education Administrative Award for her recently-completed two-week seminar in India focused on the countryโs higher education system.
โ Brian Silverstein: A professor of anthropology in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Silverstein was named a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar for his travel to Turkeyโs Ayvalฤฑk region to study olive oil production and its ties to agricultural reform, national identity and cultural change.
โ Stefano Guerra: A professor of medicine in the College of Medicine-Tucson, Guerra will conduct research identifying early-life predictors of adult lung disease in Sweden using data from a group of more than 4,000 Swedish children born between 1994 and 1996.
โ Peter Ecke: A professor of German studies in the College of Humanities, Ecke will conduct studies in international communication and UAโs study abroad programs, at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznaล in Poland.
โ Shelleyย Hawthorneย Smith: An associateย professor of practice in the Graduate College, Smith was awarded the Fulbright-Garcรญa Robles Teaching English as a Foreign Language grant, through which she will develop English language curricula alongside the Mexican Fulbright Commission.
โ Solange Duhamel: An associate professor of molecular and cellular biology in the College of Science, Duhamel will study the movement of phosphorus through the ocean at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canarรญa in Spain to better understand the elementโs role in supporting marine ecosystems.
โ Priscilla Magrath: A senior lecturer in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, Magrath received the Fulbright Scholar Teaching Award. She will teach and mentor in qualitative research methods and global health at two Indonesian universities: Universitas Jenderal Soedirman and Universitas Indonesia.
