Pima County is holding its annual post-Thanksgiving grease collection and recycling event Friday.

Residents can drop off their used cooking oil and grease at one of five collection sites. The used oil will be recycled into biodiesel, a cleaner burning fuel.

This event, in its 10th year, is held by the Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department. This year it is partnering with Edge Recycling, Grecycle, Pima Association of Governments and the town of Sahuarita.

The department said the event is designed to help reduce the amount of cooking oils poured down drains after the holiday.

Since the first recycling event, about 25,000 pounds of cooking oil and grease have been collected. The used waste has been recycled into about 3,300 gallons of biodiesel.

Used oil and grease can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday at these locations:

  • O’Rielly Chevrolet, 6160 E. Broadway
  • Tucson City Council Ward 3 Office, 1510 E. Grant Road
  • Pima Vocational High School, 5025 W. Ina Road
  • City of Tucson Water Plant No. 2, 1102 W. Irvington Road
  • Town of Sahuarita, 375 W. Sahuarita Center Way
