Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally continues to outpace her would-be Democratic rivals, raising $852,939 in donations for her re-election campaign, a filing for the first three months of 2016 shows.
McSally has more than $2.2 million in the bank, filings with the Federal Election Commission show.
The amount may seem small, given the estimated $20 million spent in Congressional District 2 during the last election cycle two years ago.
However, an amended report filed with the FEC shows McSally raised $441,005 during the first three months of 2014.
McSally has amassed a campaign war chest more than five times the size of her rivals combined, however the Tucson Republican started raising money long before her Democratic rivals, former state representatives Victoria Steele and Matt Heinz.
Heinz leads on the Democratic side in terms of fundraising. During the first three months of the year, the emergency room doctor raised $204,724 as he makes another run for congressional office.
Steele, who left the legislature earlier this year to run for Congress, raised only $39,832, according to FEC records.
