Interstate 19 and Ajo Way

Southbound traffic on Interstate 19, left, backs up approaching the Ajo Way interchange. An Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman said the 50-year-old interchange was never meant to handle the volume of cars it now sees.

Late night drivers on Interstate 19 will have just one lane of southbound Interstate 19 open starting at Ajo Way early Thursday morning.

Between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Thursday, the Arizona Department of Transportation will be removing construction equipment from the area.

β€œDrivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel,” a release from ADOT reads.
