A man was convicted of sexual conduct with a 5-year-old girl after breaking into her home last year, officials said.

On July 25, 2017, Michael Hernandez entered the home through a door left unlocked accidentally during the night, the Pima County Attorney's office said. He found the girl's bedroom and engaged in sexual conduct with her.

Detectives later linked a fingerprint left on the mother's window to Hernandez and detained him.

When questioned, he admitted that access to the window was too high but he then found the unlocked door.

Hernandez was convicted of attempted molestation of a child, sexual conduct with a minor under fifteen and second-degree burglary last week.

His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
