Pet owners worried about the Fourth of July celebrations can take steps to prevent pets from becoming lost.
The Pima Animal Care Center recommends owners:
β’ Keep pets inside during the fireworks.
β’ Make sure pet wears proper up-to-date identification in case they become lost.
β’ Provide your pet with calming and distracting items, such as classical music, wearable calming materials, or enrichment toys such as a one with peanut butter inside.
β’ Get your pet microchipped beforehand and keep your contact info up to date.
The shelter is still offering free microchips for pets at 4000 N. Silverbell Road through July 3.
If a pet gets lost, owners can call PACC's Pet Support Center and check the lost and found webpage.
PACC will be waiving pet redemption fees and only charge owners with a pets license fee, when applicable, a press release said.
